Credit: 1 Elective Unit
The Art IV course is divided into two sections. About half of the semester is spent in specific problem solving through assignments similar to those found in the Advanced Placement Course Guide. These assignments test the student's ability to apply
1) Mastery of the elements and principles of art and design.
2) knowledge of art history to a series of design problems.
The other half of the course is more of an independent study in a studio area of the student's choice. The student is expected to choose one studio area and produce a body of works not necessarily related to each other, in that area. A contract is the basis for assessment of the independent study, This course may be combined with the Advanced Art course during Senior year, allowing more time to complete the portfolio.
